Alicia Borisonik

Music

Like many ex-pat artists, Alicia Borisonik never really appreciated the iconic music of her homeland - the Argentinean tango - until she moved away. She quickly discovered that distance made the sweet and passionate longing of tango somehow feel "right"...and so she began to sing tango. Borisonik, who is also a music teacher, has created a sweet hybrid that mixes the tango and other folk music styles from Argentina with jazz and other world influences: a true north-south fusion.

Alicia’s latest recording BUSCO UN LUGAR was recently reviewed by the Ottawa X_Press newspaper: “It’s not often that one gets to hear Latin American music in Ottawa but, along with the arrival of Spring, one of the city’s transplanted treasures has emerged with an album of true Argentinean warmth.” Alicia offers workshops and residencies in schools teaching Latin American music. She had been doing educational activities in Ontario, Quebec and Yukon for many years. She will perform accompanied by an excellent group of musicians that includes: Alvaro de Minaya (Latin percussion), Joe Hincke (bass), Veronique Turcotte (violin) and Alicia Borisonik (piano, accordion and vocals)
