Her professional development was deeply influenced by her experience at Telemundo, one of the most influential television production companies in the Spanish-speaking world. Alex refers to this period as her “true university,” where she learned the essential tools of storytelling, scenic rhythm, character construction, and production dynamics—skills that would later shape her distinctive approach to theatre and help her develop a format that bridges the rigor of television with the soul of live performance.
Since relocating to Canada in 2006, Alex has directed over 25 theatre productions and currently serves as the Artistic and Creative Director of Mississauga Players Theatre Organization, a non-profit organization committed to inclusion and cultural diversity. She is also the founder of the Triple Threat Theatre Festival, a platform that celebrates emerging and immigrant voices in Ontario, and the creator of community-based arts programs such as SWAP (Say it - Write it - Act it & Perform it) and A la luz de las letras del teatro, both focused on emotional development and creative expression.
In 2019, she was honoured with the Cultural Heritage Award by the Mississauga Heritage Awards in recognition of her cultural and community impact.
Alex Montealegre continues to refine her voice as a theatre maker—one who fuses technique, intuition, and social commitment—working toward a theatre with its own identity: one that moves, educates, and transforms.
